Course Overview:
In this in-depth course, you will embark on a journey to gain a profound understanding of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. The lifetime risk for Alzheimer’s disease at age 45 is 1 in 5 for women and 1 in 10 for men. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, more than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease and over 11 million Americans provide unpaid care to people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementia. Also, 1 in 3 seniors dies of Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia. Presently, Alzheimer’s disease kills more people than breast cancer and prostate cancer.
In 2023, Alzheimer’s and other dementia cost the U.S. about $343 billion and in 2050, it could rise to $1 trillion.
Caring for seniors with cognitive impairments requires empathy, patience, and an understanding of their unique challenges.
